Buying a car in your late teens is a cool thing to do... until you find out how much insurance is. Playing music is also a cool thing to do... and you don't need insurance to do that!
Myth has it that Jan sold his car and bought some recording gear. James and his two music friends had no bass player, or recording equipment... so Jan filled the hole!
Although Jan started out learning music on 12 string acoustic, his role in Elysian Drift inspired him with the opportunity to build his own Bass -- from scratch. In fact, his developing machining skills meant that he would even install a truss rod and frets of his own making. And then later came the Modulus 5-string, the Kubicki fretless and eventually a Fender P style kit build.
Jan has built, owned and operated several professional recording studios, produced many artists and, to this day, provides the 'Drift' with technical know-how and advice when it comes to instrument choice, tracking, mixing and mastering.
