Mike Lacroix : Drums, Percussion
Mike has had a music interest since an early age, initially wanting to play bass guitar. He set out on his journey to play drums after meeting James in 1976.
Those early jams included cover songs of the time as well as sketches of James' original music. Musical exploration and discovery of bands like Rush, Genesis, Yes, Kansas and many more, exposed a world of music beyond the mainstream rock genre that sparked a strong interest to create original music in the prog rock genre with James, Ian and Jan.
Mike has performed with a few cover bands from the late 70’s thru the late 90’s, gaining experience in many styles of music. He embraces the challenge of learning, and playing new progressive music, even to this day.
A consummate student, always practicing new things, he has studied several drummers including Niel Peart, Bill Bruford, Simon Phillips, Dave Weckl and recently Gavin Harrison and Todd Sucherman.
Inspired by Simon Phillips' Protocol recording, Mike also writes music and composes on his Ensoniq VFX-SD keyboard, bought new in 1989. Some of Mike's material will be recorded with Elysian Drift in new releases to come as well as for Mike's Cosmic Kaos project, yielding four songs to date.
Mike has a home recording studio to track drums and compose his music. He uses Yamaha Maple Custom drums (1991), featured on all Elysian Drift recordings and uses Zildjian cymbals and the Roland Octapad.
